Hey, it is International Children’s Book Day today!

Hey, it is International Children’s Book Day today! What are you doing special today? Are you reading children’s books or writing them?

I am doing two things. Firstly, it has taken a while to find a suitable copy-editor, one with patience, and a good eye for young fiction.  However, I am pleased to report that I have now received the synopsis and first three chapters back and well edited.  Therefore, I have been working on the submission package for number 1 of the Tacrem Series –ENEMIES RISING’.  (Any Literary Agents or Publishers reading please take note.) I shall get the remaining chapters back before the end of the month.

I also awoke at 5.30 a.m. this morning with some additions to number 2 of the Tacrem Series that is already underway.

In addition, I have been doing some research for a delightful series of children’s books that I have started in relation to travel.

All in all a nice busy day.  What did you say you have been doing?

A Busy Summer

If your summer has been anything like mine, it has been busy!

I have completed the manuscript for Tacrem – The Beach Dwellers. I have also successfully searched for and found a highly suitable content editor who is currently conducting a MS assessment for me.

Tacrem is developing as a character and planning for the second installment is well under way.  You can check out Tacrem’s FB page here.

In the meantime, I have started writing a series of children’s books complete with characters that would be great for a kids TV programme, merchandising and app.  More on this project soon.

Needless to say that I am actively looking for an agent for these projects.

More news soon.

What is the best POV to use in a young adult novel?

I’ve just read a really good piece that answers this question:  What is the best POV to use in a young adult novel?  It is a response that really makes you think about what you are writing and how you are doing it! What do you think? Comments are welcome.

Aside

In the New York Times, Room for Debate a debate entitled: ’Authors Taking Risks Isn’t Kid Stuff’ takes hold.  In the debate some interesting dialogue ensues, not least this fascinating paragraph which about sums up a YA authors position today.

“For a young adult audience, authors have to be at the top of our game. Were competing with Facebook and smartphones, DVRs and iPods — not to mention SATs and extracurriculars. We have to capture and hold our readers’ (limited) attention on Page 1 and sustain it until the end. Young adults are willing to accompany an author just about anywhere — to a dystopian future or the ancient past — but they will not tolerate anything extraneous or self indulgent.”
